KREBSGANG
Krebsgang, an unremarkable street in Berlin Neukölln, leads into a residential area in which the streets are named after celestial bodies. Entering backwards, the participants of the audio walk Krebsgang form a parade, a temporary orbit, moving towards and connecting the different celestial bodies. The walk transforms the streets into narrative environments in which everyday perceptions and behaviors dissolve and everyday reality drifts into a fantastic exceptional state.
During the two-hour walk different musicians and artists, invited by Polyphrenic Creatures, trace the path of thirteen celestial bodies, performing each street name by responding to their associated characteristics. All contributions are performed live with the help of portable, battery-driven sound systems such as dictation machines, an iPad, a ghetto-blaster, CD players and analogue instruments. Polyphrenic Creatures performed at the stations Frog & Friends & Planetenstrasse.
In the Krebsgang Tape (118min), a narrative audio guide containing live recordings and audio plays from the Krebsgang walk, Polyphrenic Creatures guides the listeners in an orbit along the celestial bodies through the settlements in Berlin Neukölln.
